When Judy and Dick Spletzer moved to The Terraces at Bonita Springs in July 2013, they were seeking a lifestyle of convenience, care, and community. Over a decade later, they’ve found that and so much more!

From valet parking to the reassurance of life care should they ever need it, life at The Terraces is designed to be worry-free.

“The valets are my favorite part of living here,” Judy said. “We have garages, but they’re fairly far from our apartment. You just call down, and your car is waiting for you at the door. When you come back, they even offer to take your groceries upstairs.”

Plus, everything—from valet services and transportation to utilities, activities, and property taxes—is bundled into one predictable monthly fee. For Judy and Dick, moving to The Terraces meant saying goodbye to the upkeep of their large, older home and embracing more time to enjoy their active lifestyle.

“It’s easy living. I don’t have to pay all those bills, it’s fantastic! Our only extra bills are for phone and TV. It’s an easy life,” said Dick.

“The maintenance department is also wonderful,” Judy added. “This morning, I reported two burnt-out light bulbs. They were fixed within minutes.”

Peace of Mind with Life Care

As a continuing care retirement community (CCRC), The Terraces provides life care, a huge benefit over typical 55+ retirement community.  Prearranged access to assisted living, memory care and rehabilitation means residents have access to higher levels of care if needed.

“We live independently now, but knowing we have access to additional care under the same roof is so reassuring,” Judy shared. “When Dick had a knee replacement, the rehab center was wonderful. I could visit him anytime without leaving the building—and we never received a bill.”

Perhaps the most touching aspect of the Spletzers’ story is the relief their move brought to their children.

“When we told them we were moving here, my son said, ‘Thanks, Dad. No more of a burden to him,’” Dick shared. “It was very heartwarming.”

A Healthier, Happier Lifestyle

After moving to The Terraces, Dick joked with friends that it felt like living on a cruise ship that never docked.

“Our community calendar is packed with all the activities you could ever want,” he said.

Dick starts his mornings at the gym, following a customized exercise routine designed by the fitness director to improve his golf swing. Beyond the gym, residents enjoy a variety of amenities, including two pools, a putting green, a dog park, a competitive bocce league, and professionally prepared meals.

“The food is excellent,” Judy said. “Last week, we had sea bass and lamb chops—my favorite.”

Built Safe and Secure

The Spletzers have weathered two major hurricanes while living at The Terraces and say they’ve never felt safer. Equipped with generators and plenty of resources, the community provided hot meals and support throughout the storms.

“This place is built like a fortress,” Dick said. “Our lanai screens were damaged during Hurricane Irma, but they were fixed right away.”

Judy said she never felt alone, “If you needed help, you could signal with a towel outside your door, and someone would check on you hourly. We even gathered in the hallway with other residents and ended up having a little party!”
