For Kathy and Arnie Fagan, settling into Edgewater at Boca Pointe isn't about slowing down in retirement—it’s a meaningful continuation of a life rooted in purpose, connection, and giving back.

The couple made their move to the Boca Raton retirement community during the final days of 2022, between Christmas and New Year’s. It wasn’t a spontaneous decision, but a thoughtful one, inspired by friends who had already made Edgewater their home.

“Our friends moved to Edgewater at Boca Pointe, and the more we talked about it, the more we realized the whole concept of a CCRC—continuing care retirement community—just made sense,” Arnie said.

The Right Time to Move

After relocating from Connecticut to Florida in 2006, the Fagans had watched their neighborhood and social circles evolve. The timing felt right for a fresh start.

“The community changed, the club dynamics changed, and we decided it was a great time to downsize,” Kathy said. “We were ready to leave behind a big house and all the expenses that came with it.”

That decision brought a sense of relief.

“I was tired of home ownership,” Arnie admitted. “Tired of thinking about everything you have to do. Here, you really don’t need to think. Everything played out perfectly.”

Beyond the ease of maintenance-free living, their move offered something even more valuable: peace of mind. They found comfort in knowing they had planned ahead and built a safety net for whatever life might bring next.

“I met Arnie on a tennis court in 1998,” Kathy said. “We are grateful for every day we have together. We researched CCRCs because if something happened to me or to him, I didn't want one of us to be alone trying to manage a house.”

Giving Back, Right at Home

But even with their practical reasons for moving, one challenge loomed: the couple’s dedication to a cause that had become central to their lives. In 2020, Kathy and her twin sister co-founded Boynton Angels in Action, a food pantry they had been operating out of the garage of their home to serve local families in need. When the Fagans moved to Edgewater, the pantry didn’t stop—another volunteer stepped up to store inventory in Lake Worth, and the mission continued. Today, Boynton Angels in Action serves up to 20 families, delivering food to families and seniors, donating baby items, clothing and furniture, and helping children celebrate holidays with special gift baskets.

The couple also continues their charitable work at Edgewater, volunteering with Boca Helping Hands and supporting campus fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Association. Last year, Edgewater at Boca Pointe raised an impressive $18,000 in support.

“I learned at a young age the importance of giving back,” Kathy said. “My mother would send us out with collection cans for charities. Helping others was instilled in me, and I’ve never stopped.”

The couple has found that their Edgewater home only enhances their ability to lead rich, meaningful lives. “There’s a sense of community here and friendship,” Kathy said. “The friendliness of the people here, without question, is amazing. We went to several other CCRCs and nothing compared to the feeling we had when we walked in the door. We’ve been here two years and that has not changed. We love it here and we’re so grateful and blessed.”

Arnie agreed, “The activities here, there’s so much to do, we sometimes over schedule.”

Enriched Lives

The Fagans play tennis three to four times a week, volunteer regularly, and enjoy the freedom that comes with maintenance-free living. “We have more than enough space in our three-bedroom,” Kathy said. “We just come and go, and everything is taken care of. We pay our monthly fee and that’s it. If we need anything, maintenance is here in a heartbeat… someone is always here to give us a helping hand.”

“It’s an easy way to live,” Arnie added. “We love it.”

Perhaps the greatest reward is knowing that their happiness brings peace of mind to their family.

“Our children love that we live in a place where we are happy,” Arnie said. “They think it’s wonderful.”

For a couple who has devoted their lives to helping others, Edgewater at Boca Pointe offers the Fagans a perfect place to live with joy, ease, and most importantly, with purpose.
