When Debbie Capraro and her husband faced the challenges of Parkinson’s disease, they knew it was time to transition from their Pennsylvania home. The decision wasn’t just about practicality; it was about finding a place that felt right—a place where they could thrive together. For the Capraros, that place was The Terraces at Bonita Springs.

“We were living in Pennsylvania at the time,” Debbie said. “I knew I didn't want to be there because we couldn’t see our yard for the month of February. We wanted somewhere warm.”

The warm Florida sun was certainly a draw, but it was Debbie’s sister-in-law, already a resident of The Terraces, whose enthusiasm made the decision easy. After a visit in May, the Capraros knew they had found their next home.

“We put our house on the market, and it sold while we were here looking, and we just fell in love with the place. To me, it was like living in a resort,” Debbie said. The elegant courtyard was a particular highlight for her, along with finding the perfect floor plan. “It just seemed like it was meant to be.”

A True Community

For Debbie, what sets The Terraces apart is its strong sense of community. “It really is a community. Everybody knows everybody by at least their first name. It's pretty amazing,” she said.

The active, resort-like lifestyle, countless opportunities to connect with residents, and the community’s attentive and friendly staff, creates an atmosphere where everyone feels cared for.

“Everyone who works here seems willing to go the extra mile for you and always greet you with a smile,” she said.

Safety in Hurricane Season

Living in Florida comes with concerns about hurricanes, but The Terraces offers exceptional safety measures.

“There could not be in a safer place in Florida during hurricane season. We’re probably about three and a half miles from the coast, but we're about 16-feet above sea level on the bottom floor,” Debbie said.

Debbie experienced this first hand during Hurricane Ian in 2022.

“We had thought about evacuating, but after a community meeting prior to the storm, we decided to stay. Residents all told us this building was like a fortress, and they were right,” Debbie said. “Frankly, we didn't know there was a hurricane while it was going through unless you looked out the windows.”

“Our cars were protected in individual enclosed parking garages,” she added.

The Terraces’ backup generators also ensured that residents stayed comfortable with hot meals, powered elevators, and the ability to charge electronic devices.

A Built-In Support Network

For Debbie, living at The Terraces also provides a unique support system. With other residents who have loved ones facing Parkinson’s disease, she’s found a community that truly understands.

“Those of us who either have Parkinson's, or a family member with it, we talk and compare notes,” she said. “Just having somebody to share the experience with, living right here, is comforting.”
