“We, like so many others, routinely donate to a dozen national and regional charities. We then discovered Donor Advised Funds, which are administered by non-profit Community Foundations. The donor establishes a Fund with the Community Foundation, typically using appreciated assets like stock or property or marketable collectibles. Such donations provide a tax-deduction in accordance with IRS rules.
Then, the donor has the ability to “advise” the Community Foundation when and how much money is to be given out to designated charities. The Community Foundation takes responsibility for acting in accordance with the donor’s wishes. We, and several other Cokesbury Village residents, have established Donor Advised Funds with the Delaware Community Foundation (DCF). This is such a relief now. We appreciate its staffs’ help in designing Fund document, receiving our assets, making grants and investing our Fund accounts.”
